A laboratory technician position is immediately available in in the Safety of Gene Therapy and Insertional Mutagenesis Research Unit led by Dr. Eugenio Montini at the San Raffaele Telethon Institute for Gene Therapy (SR-Tiget), Milan, Italy.

The Institute

SR-Tiget was created in 1996 as a joint-venture between Fondazione Telethon and Ospedale San Raffaele (OSR), with the mission to perform cutting edge research on gene and cell therapy and to translate its results into therapeutic advances for genetic diseases. The Institute is located within the OSR campus, which includes a large multi-disciplinary research hospital, a biomedical research center, a university
and also hosts several biotechnologies companies. Over the years, SR-Tiget has given a pioneering contribution to the gene and cell therapy field with relevant discoveries in vector design, gene transfer and gene editing strategies, stem cell biology, identity and mechanism of action of regulatory cells in immune responses and innate immune cells in cancer. SR-Tiget has also established the resources and framework for translating these advances into novel experimental therapies and has implemented several successful gene therapy clinical trials, which have already treated >120 patients and led to the filing and approval of 2 novel advanced therapy medicines.

The group

Employs powerful molecular technologies (4C, HiC, ChIP-seq, RNA-seq and Integration sitesretrieval methods) to study the genomic impact of Lentiviral Vectors (LV) harboring different genetic elements aimed at improving the safety of vector integration. The overarching goal is to design and validate novel LVs with improved safety to be adopted as “gold standard” in future GT applications.

The position

We are looking for a motivated technician to help our team developing safety-improved viral vectors. Molecular biology skills are compulsory for this position. Specifically, the ideal candidate has previous experience in nucleic acids extraction, PCR-based methods and/or cloning. Cell culture and/or flow cytometry is considered a plus. The candidate will be trained to gain additional skills on omics-technologies and integration sites retrieval methods.

Main tasks

  • Molecular cloning
  • Cellular culture and cellular assays
  • Molecular biology assays (nucleic acids extraction, PCR, RT-PCR, NGS library preps)
  • Integration sites retrieval
  • Omics-technologies (RNA-seq, ChIP-seq and Hi-C)
  • General lab support (Lab ordering, managing equipment, supplies)

Qualifications and skills

  • Bachelor, Master, PhD or equivalent with previous lab experience
  • Proven experience in molecular biology
  • High motivation to work and collaborative mindset
  • High accuracy, reliability, precision under time pressure
  • Basic oral and written English

We offer

  • Competitive salary depending on qualifications and experience
  • A dynamic lab environment and a chance to make important contribution to biomedical research
  • Opportunities for further specialized training

Applications, including a CV, a cover letter and the names and contact details of at least one referee, should be sent by e-mail to [email protected].
Evaluation of applications/interviews will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
