Post-doc position available in Neuroscience Humanitas Clinical and Research Hospital, Milano, Italy The “Cell Biology of the Synapse” lab (https://www.humanitas-research.org/groups/matteo-fossati-group/) studies cellular and molecular mechanisms governing the development and function of synapses, the basic functional units of the nervous system, and how their alterations lead to pathological conditions (e.g. autism spectrum disorders, intellectual disability, epilepsy and schizophrenia).

We are seeking a highly motivated scientist, scientifically curious postdoctoral fellow with a strong interest in neuronal physiology to study the molecular basis of developmental epilepsy. The project, recently funded by Telethon Foundation, focuses on the role of the poorly characterized gene KLHL17, whose genetic variants are associated with the West syndrome, in synaptic development and function. To this aim, the successful candidate will apply a multidisciplinary approach ranging from in vitro studies to in vivo manipulation of gene function and proximity-dependent proteomics. The position is available from September-October 2023 for two years. The laboratory offers a young and dynamic environment and benefits from the collaboration with the “Pharmacology and Brain Pathology” lab directed by Professor Michela Matteoli, a leader in the field of neuro-immunology (https://www.humanitasresearch.org/groups/michela-matteoli-group/).

The laboratory is located at the Humanitas Research Hospital (Rozzano, Italy), in the south suburb of Milano. It is one of the most technologically advanced research center in Europe. It hosts an international school of Medicine, offering an international cultural environment.
