Description
Associazione Italiana Glut1 ONLUS (https://www.glut1.it/) and Fondazione Telethon agreed to collaborate in synergy and joining the respective resources to support the scientific progress in favor of the "Glucose transporter type 1 (GLUT1) deficiency syndrome".
This call is in support of research seed projects focusing only and exclusively on GLUT1 deficiency syndrome” (Disease OMIM number 606777) with the aim to test new hypothesis and generate preliminary data focused on understanding pathogenic mechanisms of GLUT1 and pave the road for the development of new therapeutic approaches.
This opportunity gives Italian investigators to prepare for larger grant applications at corporations, foundations and government agencies focused on GLUT1 deficiency.

Eligibility
Italian investigators - working either in public or private Italian non-profit research Institutions - within and outside Telethon Funded Research Institutes are eligible.
Required: MD, DMD, DVM, PhD or equivalent.

Proposal
Past experience on GLUT1 deficiency syndrome is not required. Proposals should address key outstanding questions and have the potential to lead to a change in the current paradigm or conventional wisdom and/or lead to a ground-breaking discovery in GLUT1 deficiency syndrome. Preliminary data is not required in the proposal but the underlying premise, goal, or hypothesis must be plausible and testable and the proposal must be focused with a well-defined goal that is achievable within the timeframe of the award.

Terms
Seed: 50,000 € maximum/year for one year, including up to 5% for indirect costs.
Only single centre projects admitted.

Time frame
The call is set to open in September 2019 and applications will be accepted up to October 15th, 2019.
