His name is Nello T and was designed in Maranello. The statue bearing the signatures of the racing team will be exhibited in Milan for Elephant Parade. The proceeds of the auction will fund scientific research
On the eve of the Formula 1 Italy Grand Prix, Ferrari joins the fray with the natural size reproduction of an elephant puppy, bearing the colors and logo of the Scuderia.
Nello T., this is the elephant’s name, was presented today at the Ferrari box and signed by the pilots, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa, by the Team Principal, Stefano Domenicali and the whole ‘Prancing Horse’ racing team. After the presentation ceremony, Nello T. was given to Telethon and the Elephant Parade organizers. From September the 16th to November the 15th the statue will be exhibited in Milan, at piazza Liberty (just outside the Ferrari Store) and then auctioned on November the 22nd. A portion of the proceeds will fund Telethon’s research to fight genetic diseases, and another portion will be donated to The Asian Elephant Foundation.
After the great successes achieved by the past events held in various cities around the world, Elephant Parade, the large outdoor exhibition characterizing the upcoming fall season in Milan, is coming to Italy for the first time. 80 statues depicting elephant puppies, painted by local and international artists and designers of the likes of Medhat Shafik, Carla Tolomeo, Alessandro Mendini, Marcello Lo Giudice, Karim Rashid and Barnaba Fornasetti, will be placed in squares and main avenues in Milan– from the historic centre to the fashion district, from the Navigli area to Malpensa international airport– bringing a colorful and fascinating allure to the city.
For the creation of Nello T - weight 65 kg, height 160 cm, length 180 cm– designers at Maranello found inspiration on the Ferrari pilots’ tracksuits. The elephant puppy to be featured on the exhibition catalogue cover was chosen as an emblematic peace of work for its originality and technical value.
Participating to Elephant Parade, Ferrari gives further proof of its strong bond to Telethon and its firm commitment to contribute to the financing of research on genetic diseases. The Scuderia has been teaming up with Telethon for a while on fund raising initiatives such as, for instance, the participation of Massa and Alonso to the latest charity soccer game ‘Partita del cuore’.
