Fundraising
Telethon fundraising depends primarily on a solidarity marathon presented on RAI TV channels in December: in 2008-2009 the raised funds were 33,4 million Euros. Transparency, accountability and a high organizational efficiency are major features of Telethon Italy.
Typically, about 75- 80% of the total expenses are spent on research, while the rest is used to finance fundraising and administrative costs. These figures are comparable with those of the most efficient charities worldwide (for a comparison see www.charitynavigator.org).
