Biobanks organise collections of human biological material and information for research purposes. Access to high quality biological material is essential for medical and scientific research of genetic diseases. Fondazione Telethon set up a the Telethon Network of Genetic Biobanks (TNGB) in 2008 in an effort to centralize very rare biological samples, establish governance and standardization of operations, and foster collaborations with patient organisations. The biobanks in the TNGB are peer-reviewed by a Biobank Committee made up of international experts.
Visit the dedicate website of the Telethon Network of Genetic Biobanks to check out the sample catalogue, which contains more than 95 000 biospecimens representing approximately 850 distinct rare genetic diseases. Request for sample usage is open for all researchers worldwide.
