Organization

Telethon is composed of the Comitato Telethon Fondazione ONLUS and the Fondazione Telethon, two distinct yet complementary private non-profit organisations, recognised by the Ministry of Education, University and Research.
The Comitato Telethon Fondazione ONLUS
The Comitato Telethon Fondazione ONLUS is mainly engaged in raising funds and their allocation to research projects rigorously evaluated and approved by an independent International Medical-Scientific Committee, the honorary president of which is the Nobel prize laureate Renato Dulbecco. The Comitato transfers resources to the Fondazione in the form of funds earmarked for specific research projects.
The Fondazione Telethon
The Fondazione Telethon is primarily concerned with the administration of its research institutes (TIGEM, HSR-TIGET, DTI and Tecnothon). The goal here is to respond to a dual need: to have advanced centers in biomedical research on genetic diseases and achieve the greatest public benefit from the use of controlled and efficient resources.
On request, the Fondazione will handle the direct management of research funds assigned by the Comitato to external institutes. In this case the funded researchers entrust the Fondazione with their grant assignment and the purchase of products and services necessary to their research projects.
The Board of Directors
To ensure sound management, the Comitato and the Fondazione have the same governing structure. The Board of Directors is composed of Luca di Montezemolo as Chairman, Omero Toso (Vice President), Francesca Pasinelli (CEO), Carlo Ferdinando Carnacini, Alberto Fontana and Salvatore Di Mauro.
The Advisory Bodies
The advisory bodies are: the Board of Auditors, which monitors compliance with the law and the constitution, respecting the principles of proper management and the adequacy of the administrative and accounting organization; the External Auditors who ensure the proper completion of social accounting and accounting records and verify the compliance of financial rules governing it; the Scientific Committee, in the key role of evaluation of research projects, and the Scientific Advisory Board, which supports the choice of direction and management of the Board of Directors in biomedical research.
